We use Olympic Weightlifting movements to develop maximum functional strength and power. Research has shown that Olympic Weightlifting exercises (eg. Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Squats) produce higher power outputs than conventional weight training. And that’s why we use them. If you don’t regularly Snatch and Clean, you are not as powerful as you could be. Period.

Athletes who utilized the Olympic movements (snatch, clean) at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs were recently shown to have higher vertical jumps than athletes that didn’t train using the Olympic lifts. It is widely acknowledged that the vertical jump test is one of the purest measures of overall athletic ability. The Olympic Weightlifters in this study (Stone, 2003) recorded some of the highest vertical jumps of any athletes ever tested!

As a certified Sports Performance and Olympic Weightlifting Coach, I use this form of training to develop athletes with more power, strength, speed, and overall functional ability.
